Nikka Miyagikyo by private taxi

A private taxi and an English-speaking guide take you from Sendai station to Osaki Hachiman shrine and then to Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery in the hills west of the city. Pick it for the language: Nikka's own guided tour runs only in Japanese, and this way someone explains it all.

Nikka Miyagikyo Distillery Tour by Taxi

About this experience

Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, opened Miyagikyo in 1969 where two rivers meet in the mountains west of Sendai. It is Nikka's second distillery, known for the Coffey stills and soft, fruity malts. This private tour starts at 12:30 pm at the reserved taxi stand by Sendai station's west exit. The taxi stops first at Osaki Hachiman shrine (20 minutes), a black-lacquered National Treasure built in 1607 for Date Masamune. Then about 2 hours 20 minutes at the distillery, and back.

Why pay for this when the distillery is open to anyone? Because Nikka's visitor page says guided tours are free but need a reservation and are conducted only in Japanese. The English guide fills that gap, and the taxi saves the 530 yen train to Sakunami plus the walk or taxi from the station. Admission is included; lunch is not.

Two warnings. The tour is non-refundable: no refund and no date change for any reason, so book only when your plans are fixed. And the distillery itself closes on 1 and 2 December 2026 and from 23 December 2026 to 31 January 2027, while the listing calendar shows dates in January; avoid those. The $211 from-price is per person for the largest group in the plan for 2 or 3 people, so a pair pays more each. Everyone must be 20 or older.
